An 18-year-old private security man
has been arrested by the Amasaman
police for allegedly attempting to give
his four-year-old nephew to a
spiritualist for money rituals.
Daniel Kyei Baffour was apprehended
in the shrine of the said spiritualist
upon a tip-off. He was reportedly
there with the victim.
The victim has since been given back
to the parents after the arrest on
Wednesday, October 21, 2015.
The Amasaman District Police
Commander, DSP Elvis Bawa
Sadongo, told DAILY GUIDE that at
about 8pm last Wednesday, police
had information that someone was
presenting a child to be killed for
money rituals at a shrine of a
spiritualist popularly called juju man,
at Pobiman, near Amasaman in the
Greater Accra District.
A team of police personnel were
dispatched to the place and spotted
the man (Kyei Baffour) in the shrine
with the innocent child.
He was immediately brought to the
station together with the said juju
man for interrogation.
Preliminary investigations, according
to the police, indicated that Kyei
Baffour, who claimed he wanted to be
rich since all his friends were basking
in luxury, contacted the juju man who
had advertised himself on billboards
along the Amasaman-Nsawam road,
to assist him become equally rich.
The suspect called the juju man on
phone for enquiries before later
following up to his shrine for further
deliberations, DSP Elvis Bawa
Sadongo maintained.
At the shrine, Kyei was asked to pay
GH¢50 as consultation fee but he
managed to pay GH¢30 instead,
claiming he could not afford to pay
the full amount.
The juju man (name withheld), the
police officer said, asked Kyei to bring
two fowls for the money ritual but
Kyei allegedly told him that he could
not afford the two fowls.
He again requested that the
spiritualist use part of his body for the
rituals but the juju man declined the
request.
Two days later, the police
commander said, Kyei again called
the spiritualist and wanted to find out
if human blood was possible since he
had no money to buy the fowls.
The juju man allegedly enquired from
Kyei where he could get the human
blood and he (Kyei) said he had
someone in mind.
Seeing the desperation in the face of
the suspect, the juju man accepted
his offer and asked him to bring the
child for the ritual.
Kyei Baffour then lured his nephew
when the grandmother had gone to
church that Wednesday evening to the
shrine for the rituals.
The spiritualist then explained all the
procedures of the rituals to Kyei,
thinking that he would have a change
of mind and decline to offer the victim
for the sacrifice, but Kyei asked him
to go ahead.
According to the police commander,
the juju man emphasized that the boy
would be killed in his presence and
his blood used for the money ritual
but Kyei did not rescind his decision.
The spiritualist then brought out a
knife, thinking that the suspect would
panic but he still was not bordered.
Upon realizing that Kyei was
determined to have the boy killed, the
juju man allegedly went out of his
shrine to call the police to arrest the
suspect.
He has provisionally been charged
with child stealing and would be
processed for court soon.
